Quayside Mills, Leith
Type: Residential - Conservation & renovations
Our client sought to add a modern, two-storey extension to their 1960s home, with a terrace overlooking the Cammo Estate.
The versatile space is completely self-contained, which allows it to be used as a family entertaining space, or a studio for short-term lets.
Process
With an appetite for contemporary design, the client came to us looking to extend and extensively remodel their home, providing much needed additional space and guest accommodation.
The original house was built in the 1960s of non-traditional construction, so in order to safeguard the existing dwelling, we created a steel “table” for the first floor extension that spans across the existing ground floor. A new kitchen and living space is housed within a contemporary rendered box and flows seamlessly to the existing house. The zinc clad connection piece houses a new master ensuite and bathroom.
To the rear, a spiral staircase provides a separate access to the two-storey extension, creating an adaptable space that be enjoyed by both owners and visitors. The spacious, sheltered terrace faces south-west - a perfect location to watch the sun set over the Cammo Estate.
